Clothing Options

When attending the ceremonies we would like to keep it optional if you would like to dress in Western or Indian style clothing for them all. Should you want to go with Indian style clothing but are a bit unsure of what to buy or where to buy from we have attempted to give you some options below.

In Indian weddings there are 3 main types of outfits that guests wear;

For women/girls:

Lehenga, Saree, Salwar kameez , and dresses. (lehenga, saree and suits range from different colours, patterns and fabrics, please keep in mind bali heat when deciding what to wear.

A lehenga is a skirt and crop top combo and can be dressed formal or smart casual depending on the details on the fabric.

Saree is  a very long piece of clothing that is draped to the body – it can be dressed from casual to formal depending on the design and intricacy of fabric.

Salwar Kameez is a long dress usually worn loose fitting with slits along the sides, pants (underneath the dress) with a dupatta which is a scarf that completes the outfit.

If you are going to purchase any of the above outfits we would suggest trying to find them made of either linen, chiffon, georgette, or any light breathable fabrics to help keep you cool

Men:

Kurta and Kurta Pajama (pants) which is a long top with slits along the side and pants underneath – these can be quite casual to smart casual. They are usually cotton fabric which makes them comfortable for warmer weather.

Sherwani is a formal outfit and consists of Kurta, Kurta pjama underneath and the sherwani, a long jacket, over it. It is usually more structured and can have buttons down the front. This outfit has a jacket which may be warmer to wear Bali weather

Mehendi:

On the day of the mehendi day, feel free to wear Indian or western clothing as it is smart casual.

Haldi:

For those attending the Haldi event, everyone is required to wear yellow during the event (no exceptions!) at a minimum a yellow top. You can wear Indian or western clothing – married Indian women are required to dress up and tend to wear their wedding jewellery on the day however this isn’t a requirement and you can wear casual clothing.

Wedding ceremony:

For the wedding ceremonies it would be ideal for everyone to wear Indian clothing, the clothing options are semi formal to formal. The Bride wears red on the day so usually tradition dictates guests not wear red however if that’s what you really want to wear Komal will not be upset (maybe)

Wedding reception:

The reception will be a semi formal event so we advise to dress accordingly, however again you may wear indian or western clothing.
