Baraat

Baraat is a celebratory wedding procession for the groom, his family and friends, involving live music and dancing. It is a fun party where the groom and his guests arrive at the wedding to meet the bride’s family. It is fun filled with live dhol (drums) and dancing which can be anywhere around 20 minutes to an hour.

Millin is where the bride’s side of the family and friends welcome the groom’s family and guests to the wedding. It is an important custom where the two families meet and welcome each other.

Wedding ceremony

Varmala

The Varmala, is a wedding garland made of flowers that the bride and groom exchange during the wedding ceremony. It is an essential part of Hindu weddings and is considered a symbol of love, respect, and commitment.

Agni pooja

A small sacred fire is lit in the centre of the mandap inviting Agni, The Fire God, the symbol of light, power and purity while offering ghee, rice and flowers into the flame. These prayers have a special importance, for it is Agni who dispels darkness and ignorance in life and leads us to eternal light and knowledge.

Saat Pheras

Saat Pheras are seven circles that a couple takes around the sacred fire. This significant ceremony marks the ultimate union of a bride and groom and proclaims them as husband and wife. While taking the seven rounds around a sacred fire they make promises to each other that binds them in the matrimonial bond. Each phera comes with a different promise that the bride and groom vow to each other, the priest then recites those promises in Sanskrit and asks the couple to repeat after him.

Kanyadaan

Kanyadaan, meaning “giving away the bride” in Sanskrit, is a symbolic marriage ritual for the Bride’s parents and the couple. The Father of the Bride take’s his daughters right hand and places it in the Groom’s right hand, requesting for him to accept his daughter as his equal partner.
